Right after “gaining knowledge from the educational sessions and networking,” attendees of the annual PracticeMatch Recruiters’ Conference consistently list “getting to know the PracticeMatch staff” as one of the top benefits of attending.
Those of you who attended the 2012 conference in Miami probably recognize Melissa Underbrink. Melissa is our newest executive here at PracticeMatch, and we want to take a few minutes to introduce her to those of our readers who were not able to meet her face-to-face in Miami.
Melissa joined PracticeMatch in August 2011. When asked what attracted her to PracticeMatch, Melissa said, “The reason that stands out the most is the array of services available to clients.” She explained, “Once I saw what we offer to our clients, I was hooked. PracticeMatch truly is the Rolls Royce of systems for in-house physician recruiters.”
Before joining PracticeMatch, where she now oversees the sales and locum tenens divisions, Melissa spent 14 years in the locum tenens industry, starting as a locums recruiter for a St. Louis company. She said, “I helped to grow their primary care department and worked my way through the ranks to become chief operating officer when I left in early 2011.” Melissa went on to explain her passion for locum tenens: “I grew up in the locum tenens industry and can remember my first placement I made many years ago. It’s very fulfilling, when you put your first deal together, to see the benefit the client receives and how well the locums doctor fits in and appreciates your assistance.”
In her role at PracticeMatch, Melissa manages a five-person sales team and the entire locum tenens division. Melissa provides her teams with encouragement, motivation, and inspiration to do their best for clients. “My true passion,” she says, “is for building, training, and helping others become as successful as they aspire to be.”
Melissa enjoys working with employers and physicians. She says, “I believe in our services and what PracticeMatch can do for in-house physician recruiters.” She continues, “PracticeMatch can be the one-stop shop for all their needs. Nobody else can say that.” The biggest challenge her team faces is getting that message across to in-house physician recruiters and physicians while being mindful and respectful of their full plates and limited time.
Melissa is married and has two children, ages five and two. She is an exercise enthusiast; she loves to run, cycle, strength train, and box. She has completed two half marathons, and participated in her first biathlon in 2011.
